AIVRT & World AMR Awareness Week 18 - 24 November 2025
In alignment with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) efforts, AIVRT actively participated in the World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW) 2025. This global campaign took place from November 18 to 24, 2025. The aim is to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and to promote collaborative action against drug-resistant pathogens.
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents. As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death.
Outreach, communicating outwards, is central to the AIVRT mission, making the goals of WAAW 2025 an essential part of the AIVRT project. Under the theme “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,” AIVRT's daily videos and posts were focused on informing research communities, healthcare professionals and the general public about the urgent need to address AMR. AIVRT is working together on research that will lead to solutions. AIVRT also recognises the vital need to inform the public about the threat of AMR, to foster awareness and initiate practical solutions for a healthier future.
AIVRT created a comprehensive and informative campaign during WAAW 2025, focusing on utilising Instagram and LinkedIn, our primary social media platforms (follow us! links on page!). It was a campaign all about raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and engaging new audiences.
The range of content and themes was wide, with insightful posts that addressed the experiences of patients, their families, and healthcare staff, highlighting critical topics in antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and control, and sepsis. There were focused posts that explained “What is Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)?” directly. Throughout the week, posts and videos addressed prevalent misconceptions about antimicrobial resistance, urging viewers/readers to learn more about this critical issue. While many misunderstandings persist, the AIVRT and WHO message emphasises the importance of accurate information in combating this global challenge.
Special thanks to our dedicated team of researchers and postdocs for the incredible effort they put into creating fresh, unique material for WAAW 2025. We recognise the hard work not only in creating accurate content but also in crafting daily themes and exceptional graphics. We know it is hard to find time in your busy, demanding research schedules, and we thank you for making the great effort. Your hard work has not only produced compelling videos and posts but has also created lasting materials for people to review in this North-South project on this vital public health concern. By showcasing how small actions can lead to meaningful change, you have empowered people to raise awareness and promote responsible antibiotic use. You’ve shown that together, we can continue to combat this invisible threat and safeguard public health.
