AIVRT & QUB PI Dr Beckie Ingram on TEDxQUB - When antibiotics stop!

AIVRT & QUB PI Dr Beckie Ingram recently presented a TEDxQueensUniversityBelfast on the topic of “When antibiotics stop!” In this recent TEDx talk, immunologist Beckie from Queen’s University Belfast addressed the growing threat of antibiotic resistance and its implications for future medical treatments. The presentation outlined a troubling scenario: as bacteria become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, many routine medical procedures may become impractical.

Beckie explored the potential consequences for healthcare, emphasising that a post-antibiotic world could dramatically alter the landscape of medical treatment. Beckie also reassured viewers by discussing proactive approaches to combat this crisis. The central message was the pivotal role vaccines could play in preventing infections in an era where antibiotics may no longer be effective.

Beckie shared insights from her career, spanning institutions such as Imperial College London and efforts to combat infectious diseases in Uganda. Beckie’s talk not only highlighted the urgency of addressing antibiotic resistance but also offered hope through innovative vaccine research.
